Centre for Marine Futures
Maps tell us about the world around us.
While we take maps for granted on land, our marine environments remain largely uncharted.
Marine habitat maps support fisheries management, aquaculture development, establishment and management of marine parks and are fundamental to understanding the environmental impacts of developments ranging from ports to pipelines.
Through the Centre for Marine Futures, we continue to develop innovative technologies revolving around towed underwater video, still imagery, hydroacoustics and LIDAR, as well as applying research outcomes from spatial ecology and predictive modelling to map our marine environments.
Members of our team have also been involved in marine mapping for the Parks Victoria project.
